Oh, you know who you are. You don’t believe in the rights of women to control their own bodies, don’t believe in equality for everyone, and at the same time, you stand up there, waving your flag, in your holy armor, singing “Onward Christian Soldiers”. You go red-faced with your hate, and yet you’ll still be in church on Sunday, whether you’re in the pews or behind the pulpit.
Well, I’m here to tell you that Jesus didn’t say ANYTHING about birth control, abortion, gays or marriage equality. But just in case you’re sputtering now, here’s what he DID say, and it applies to all of you:
Matthew 7:1-5: Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment that you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Matthew 25:40: And the King will say, “I tell you the truth, when you did it to oe of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.”
Mark 12:31: The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.
John 8:7: When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Matthew 5:39: If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Matthew 5:43-44: Ye hath heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love thy enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you.
Matthew 7:12: Therefore all things whatsoever that ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:21 Render therefor unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things which are God’s.
And no, I’m not a Christian, but I do believe that he was a great prophet, with many wonderful things to say.
